Do everything without grumbling or arguing,
15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. - Philippians 2:14-15
Dear Jesus, you lived 33 years and never once did you grumble.  I am not sure I can go 33 minutes without grumbling to myself.  I am grateful that your life covers mine.  But I see what you are saying.  When I live out my days cheerfully, then I shine in front of a world darkened by selfish grumbling. I want the music of my life to match the words I hold out to them.  Come by your Holy Spirit and exchange my poor pitiful grumbling with your cheerful, faith filled joy.  Make my life a blessing to those who need to be cheered up today. AMEN

"Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Matthew 28:20
Dear Jesus, when I was a little child I always felt safe when I knew my Dad was around. When I was in school I always behaved better when I knew the teacher was in the room. When I was in high school I always had more fun when my closest friends were with me. When I have my family with me now, I have a hard time feeling lonely.  All of these blessings come from you sending someone to be with me!  And then I read your words, "I will be with you always."  You are all those people in my life; the One who makes me feel safe, who changes my behavior, who makes life more fun, who keeps me from feeling lonely.  I need you every hour to be with me.  Thank you for promising to be right here with me during this whole day.  I know today will be good, because today you will be with me.  Thanks.  AMEN

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,

for the rights of all who are destitute.
    Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy. Proverbs 31:8-9
Dear Jesus, right here in your word you tell me that I am my brother's keeper. You do not want me to get so lost in all of my troubles and aspirations that I cannot see the needs of others around me.  Help me to speak up for those in need in all circumstances.  Help me to be a peacemaker between others and one who networks for the benefit of my friends and acquaintances.  Open my eyes to see what you see.  When it hurts to look at the poverty around me, give me courage to overcome my wince, roll up my sleeves and relieve the pain if even in a small way.  You healed people that you knew would suffer again.  Help me to do the same.  AMEN

14 I answered, “Sir, you know.”

And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. - Revelation 7:12

Dear Jesus, funny how you describe life on earth as "the great tribulation" and I spend so much energy trying to make it feel like heaven.  Why am I so surprised when daily life gets hard and troubles come.  You consigned the world to this as our chastisement for our sin.  Instead of making this heaven on earth where we all live in sin forever, you came and you lived and you shed your blood on that great and horrible day that was your "great tribulation".  Here, wash my life and make it white in your blood.  And reserve for me a place standing before your gracious throne where there is not more tribulation, trouble or sorrow.  Since I am going there to be with you in righteousness forever, help me to live with hope, joy and peace no matter what I am facing today. AMEN

"There is no fear in love, because perfect love casts out all fear." - 1 John 4:18
Dear Jesus, it amazes me that you never were afraid of anyone.  You loved them so perfectly and trusted your Father so implicitly that you never responded or acted out of fear.  How opposite my life can be.  I make tons of decisions based on what or who I am trying to avoid out of fear.  Fill me with your love for all people and give me that faith that can move mountains so that I live more boldly and reach out more purely to all those around me.  Make me love those that grate on me and indiscriminately serve those who challenge me.  Make me a lover of all people!  I don't want to waste anymore time hiding from difficult situations out of lovelss fear. AMEN

"If you being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him." - Matthew 7:11
Dear heavenly Father, I am always thinking about how I can bless my kids and yet I don't often think you are doing the same for me.  But you are!  It amazes me that you wait to be asked and love to answer prayers so much.  Help me with everything that is burdening me today.  Give me answers to my strained relationships, gas for my tank, insight for my spiritual growth, peace for my worried heart, help for my friends who have health problems and strength to fight my temptations.  There, I asked.  I know you will answer.  You promised! I trust you and so now I will go out and serve you with a heart liberated from the burden of trying to play God. AMEN

The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy. Proverbs 12:22

Dear Lord, it seems that lying is universal to all people.  Children lie to avoid getting into trouble. Students lie by cheating on tests.  Men lie about their feelings.  Women lie about their weight and age.  Addicts lie to themselves and others about their consumption.  Old people lie about the real affects of age on their ability to live independently.  World religions are built on fanciful lies.  It is so hard not to believe that lying is more expedient and useful than the truth at times.  But is is reprehensible in your site.  Everything about you is the truth and everything you teach us is trustworthy.  Help me to live counter human culture and to not lie about anything.  Help me to always live in the truth and not lies.  I want others to receive truth from me, especially the truth about your unconditional love and your ability to forgive all liars too.  Lord, make all of your people honest and loving. AMEN

One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace
will have the king for a friend. Proverbs 22:11
Dear Jesus, you made Solomon wiser than all the rest of us.  This little passage he wrote as king reminds me that my heart and my words are in focus before you and people who lead.  Help me give attention to my heart, to root out any impure motives I might have for the way I treat anyone around me.  Don't let me harden my heart and use excuses or blame for any unkind word or selfish influence.  I want people to hear grace and love when they happen upon my words.  I cannot produce such goodness on my own, so please come and take over my heart and mouth and use them both to win others for you and me.  AMEN

    Pastor Don Patterson
Being careful how you think and speak is a craft for only the brave at heart.

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39) Martha had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. - Luke 10:38-39
Dear Jesus, when Mary opened her home to you with her sister, Martha, and brother, Lazarus, she also sat and listened to you.  Too many times I get busy like Martha and I forget to sit at your feet and let you fill me up.  I can tell when it happens.  My patience gets thin and there is a low grade fever running through my emotions.  My spiritual immune system is weak and I get infected by old familiar temptations.  Help me to see you in the corner of my home beckoning me to choose the better part, to sit quietly and meditate on your words of peace and triumph for my soul and my life.  Fill my tank then I will get up from there and do devoted things for you and not just my duty.  AMEN
    Pastor Don Patterson

Those who work their land will have abundant food,
but those who chase fantasies have no sense. Proverbs 12:11
Dear heavenly Father, you have given me so many good things to do that are a simple part of my everyday life.  Sometimes I look on them with boredom and disdain and long to accomplish some big dreams to do something "great".  Help me not to overlook the power of doing the daily tasks that are a blessing to my family and friends.  I want to "work the land" you have given me and not chase fantasies.  Also, help me to use the resources you have given me faithfully so I make my family finances strong to provide for them for a long time.  Thank you for promising to take care of us even when we make mistakes and miss our ques.  AMEN
    Pastor Don Patterson

    July 10

All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered. Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers. Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare of their slaves. 1 Timothy 6:1-2
Dear Jesus, so often I do not think that how I look at my boss or how I treat those over me as a way to give a good testimony for your name.  Instead, I think of it as survival, or competition, or a necessary evil.  Change my heart and help me to think of my superiors as your way of blessing me and my way of blessing you in how I respect them.  And when others at work show disrespect, help me to avoid letting their thoughts become my own.  I want every area of my life sanctified by your truth and love. I want my friends at work and in the community to marvel at what kind of people you create by your Holy Spirit.  AMEN
    Pastor Don Patterson
"When Jesus bought me, he bought everything in my life too.  I now own nothing alone."
    July 8

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:1-4

Dear heavenly Father, you have changed my life by sending your Son Jesus to save me by his complete sacrifice and to model for me the way you want all of us to live.  Help me to be humble and loving with all people.  Keep me from venting on people over the phone just because they are someone I will most likely never meet.  Help me to treat every soul as if they are Jesus himself.  And when shut the door to my home help me to be peaceful and loving to those behind the door with me so I do not treat outsiders or insiders with any less dignity and respect than I would you.  And when others treat me poorly help me to not think so much of myself that I get bent out of shape.  All to your glory and our good.  Amen

“Cursed is the cheat who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but then sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord. For I am a great king,” says the Lord Almighty, “and my name is to be feared among the nations.  - Malachi 1:14
Dear Heavenly Father, when your Old Testament people tried to bring to you their blemished animals you were offended, because it showed that they no longer lived in awe and thanks to you as the God of the universe.  While you do not expect animal sacrifices anymore, I know you expect us to do our best at serving you and others, to give our best in support of your gospel and to spend our best moements in communion with you.  I have failed you too many times and in this verse above I see your heart.  You want to be recognized for who you are!  I acknowledge you and ask you to forgive me for Jesus' sake and to help me revere you in the way I act and move among other people today.  AMEN

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." - Solomon
    July 4

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” - Galatians 5:13-14
Dear heavenly Father, so often when I think about our freedoms as Americans I think in terms of what this freedom has allowed for me to gain for myself.  But when you speak about freedom, you think in terms of how you have freed me from myself to have an impact on others.  Thank you for the freedom you have given me as an American and as a Christian.  And help me to use the freedom I have in our country to practice the freedom I have as a Christian to serve others selflessly.  Give me a far reach into the lives of others to make a positive difference the way that your only Son did.  AMEN
    Pastor Don Patterson
There are two kinds of freedom: the freedom to do what you want and the freedom to do what you ought.  When what you ought is what you want, you are really beginning to live!

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. Hebrews 11:8
Dear Lord, when you called Abraham to venture out to unknown places, you wanted him to trust solely on your promised goodness.  And he did!  I struggle with that at times.  I want to question, and debate my circumstances.  Help me to let go of my evaluations of the way you lead me into various new and different situations.  Help me to roll with it, knowing your have a better story to write for me than I do.  Give me a heart like Abraham's that trusts and obeys.  I have plans for today but I know you do too.  Help me to follow uncontrollable interruptions as a call to from you to go some "new" place for your glory.  AMEN
    Pastor Don Patterson

It is too small of a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept.  I will also make yo a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of earth" - Isaiah 49:6
Jesus, I am amazed when I look at this Old Testament prophecy about your work.  It was planned all along and published so early that you were going to take the truths once shared only with Israel and bring them to Gentiles like me on the other side of the planet.  And here I am in your church among your people, being taught and understanding the truths once only shared in a small place on the other side of the globe.  Who am I that for my sake you would spread your love and salvation to me?  I am overwhelmed with peace and security to know that you reached this far to save my life forever.  Help me to live as a positive, happy and contented saint today.  Give me the power to bless those closest to me with good thoughts and happy feelings and to keep any doubtfu,l unbelieving thoughts to myself while you work on me to relax and believe in your goodness. AMEN
    Pastor Don Patterson

    July 1

    You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
        you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3  You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.6  Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.  Psalm 139:1-6
Dear Lord, it blows my mind that with 7 billion people in the world that you boast about knowing my every thought and word even before I do. You even see me sitting up and lying down. I am so careless about my own ways and you watch me like a parent of a newborn.  When I take the time to think about how lovingly you watch over my every move, I feel secure and peaceful.  I am free not to worry about so much.  Instead, I can focus on you and the love you have for me.  And I can focus on loving others instead of competing with them for attention or money or influence.   Help me Lord to see what you see about me so I can grow into the person you want me to be.  AMEN

  • Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” 62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”  - Luke 9:61-62

Lord Jesus, lately we have had to remind our son to tell us what he is doing when he takes off to be with friends.  He can get so excited to be with friends that he forgets to communicate with his parents.  In that context I understand what you were saying to that fellow who wanted to follow you but first wanted to say "goodbye" to his family.  You want us to be so excited and faith filled that when you call on us to follow you that we drop everything and everyone to be near you.  I know you are God and I know that you give me eternal life.  I want to be near you more than everyone else.  Help me to make time to be with you in personal devotional time.  Help me to protect our time together with all my heart. And when I am with others, come with me and guide me so that in every place I am truly following you.  AMEN

    Pastor Don Patterson

Trying to follow Jesus and someone else is like "texting" while you are driving.  Disaster looms.

  • We love because he first loved us. - 1 John 4:19
Dear Jesus, I love my parents because I realize how many great and wonderful sacrifices they made to love me and my siblings.  Their love for me has produced love in me for them.  It is the same with you.  Not until I realized what great love you have given me by making me and putting me in your world, did I really have any feelings for you.  And not until I realized the great sacrifice you made for my forgiveness and redemption did I have such strong feelings of attraction to your name.  But I love you now more than ever.  Help me to do the same for others by loving them first.  Help me to produce love in them by NOT waiting for them to show any feelings for me before I reach out to touch their lives.  And when they do notice that I have loved them with the kind of love that you have shown me, prevent me from exploiting that love and using it to manipulate them into liking me.  Give me the ability to simply tell them about how it was really your love flowing through me all along. AMEN
    Pastor Don Patterson
Loving another person first, takes faith in God and faith in the power of his love.

  • 59  Jesus said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”  60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” - Luke 9:59-60

Jesus, I know that you supported people who had lost loved ones.  I think of how you raised from the dead that little girl in the upper room and the boy from Nain.  You wept hard before you raised Lazarus too.  You are not heartless and cold about the need for family around the time a loved one dies.  So, I wonder what it was that you saw in the heart of that man and his situation that made you tell him to "Let the dead bury their own dead." Was his father a notorious unbeliever that hurt him and many others?  Did this man need to understand how nothing could get in the way of his devotion to you?  Was it because you were leaving on your last circuit ride to Jerusalem to save the world and you did not want this man to miss it?  And how do I apply these words to myself today?  So far, this is what I know, you do not want me to have any excuse to delay following you in my heart.  No earthly relationship, no earthly event, no pet sin, is big enough to put you off.  You are the most significant person and event in my life.  So, I will not put you off for anything.  I repent of whatever has been in the way and I follow you with all my being.  I know who you are and that harnesses all my devotion. AMEN

  • 57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”  58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” - Luke 9:57-58

Dear Jesus, you lived your whole earthly life without ever settling down and making it home.  You weren't at home.  Home for you is heaven where all the angels praise you and understand the grandeur of your love and holiness.  Our dimwitted human race sees you only through the fog of our fallen reason.  How could you ever feel at home among us when we struggle so much to "get" you?  But you still came and loved us perfectly.  You left home to love lost souls.  Help me to leave my "den" to love lost souls just as you did.  If my comforts keep me from saving a soul I will despise that comfort. Relive your life through me until my last breath here.  Then I will be home with you. AMEN

    Pastor Don Patterson

  • So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good. - 1 Peter 4:19
Dear Heavenly Father,  I spend my whole life trying to avoid suffering.  If I feel pain, I do whatever I can to get rid of it.  If I sense a conflict in a relationship I tend to shrink back to protect myself from emotional pain.  If I see struggle and work coming my way, I think of how I can hurry up and get past it.  I am naturally wired too avoid pain.  And then you say in this verse, "those who suffer according to God's will ..." How foreign the idea is to me that you would will my suffering.  But for reasons that help me and others grow in life, you lead me into suffering.  I believe it.  That's what your word tells me.  Help me to continue having a good attitude even in suffering, to continue to do all the  good I can for others even in suffering and to continue to glorify your name even in suffering. By your Holy Spirit give me the same maturity about suffering that your Son had when he willingly took up the cross for me.  AMEN

  • Many claim to have unfailing love,
but a faithful person who can find? Proverbs 20:6
Dear Lord, in this proverb you dangle out unfailing love as a carrot that you want me to pursue.  You tell me talk is cheap and that finding a person who really loves without fail is very, very rare.  You are making me want to be that person.  I want to have unfailing love that protects reputations, refuses to be disloyal or to gossip or to be mean.  I want to be that person who meets the needs of others and encourages them faithfully, who will reprove as much as compliment but both with an undying ownership of the other person's welfare.  I don't have this kind of love by nature.  I can recognize it but not produce it on my own.  I need our supernatural help.  Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit and make me a true and kind person who loves without fail. Here I am, your servant!  AMEN

  • Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. -                               Proverbs 19:21
Dear Lord, I plan so many things for myself and my family.  And sometimes I think that just because I make these plans that you and the whole universe should cooperate to make sure I get to see them to completion.  How silly of me to think that I am the center of the universe and that all good plans start with me!  I repent.  You have purposes far beyond me and whatever my mind can conceive   All of your plans lead to eternal survival too - for me and many others.  Thank you for not always cooperating with my plans and give me that heart that wants to cooperate with your plans with joy and humility. AMEN

  • On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.   Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:6-8
Dear Jesus, sometimes I cannot sleep because of the worries I have about my health or my loved ones.  I try not to wake myself with my thoughts but sometimes they are too overwhelming.  In those times I want to be like David who wrote above, "On my bed I remember You; I think of You in the watches of the night ... I sing in the shadow of Your wings."  I know you love me and protect me and that you want to give me sleep.  Help me to remember that your right hand upholds me and that I will not pass away one minute early.  So many times you have rescued me.  You are worthy of my trust.  Your gift of salvation alone makes me let go and trust you with everything else.  Thanks for being there and help me next time I cannot sleep. AMEN

  • Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. - 1 Peter 5:7
Dear heavenly Father, how much energy I have wasted by worrying over my own lot in life or that of my loved ones.  So often the bad things that I fear never happen and what looks bad you always turn for my good and the good of others.  Furthermore, you often bring blessings into my life, more than I could ever imagine.  Today I will listen to your word!  I give you each of the things I have been fretting over. (List them here.)  Since I won't be worrying so much, I will give myself to doing more productive things, like helping others in your name.  Show me today someone I can help.  And give me the energy to act on my thoughts and make it happen.  AMEN

  • 15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. - 2 Peter 3:15
Dear heavenly Father, you are so bent on saving every soul that you patiently wait for the straying to come back home long past when any of us would have waited.  How many times have I heard of people who left behind a marathon of hurt and at the end of their lives they repented and received your grace and mercy.  You love people that much.  I, on the other hand, get offended for you when people sin.  Help me to listen to Peter's words above and to rejoice in your patience with everyone.  Help me to hold out the your words of life to them while I wait for them to wake up and smell your roses. Help me to get into the words of both Peter and Paul that lead me to follow your heart and lovingly reach out to the lost with patience.  AMEN
    Pastor Don Patterson

  • 13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God,which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. - 1 Thessalonians 2:13
Dear Heavenly Father, Paul was thankful that you led the Thessalonians to accept his preaching and teaching as your very words.  I want to be that person for whom a true herald of your word would thank you.  Plow up any hardness in my heart that makes me deflect and discount the teaching and preaching of your word in my hearing.  Make me a person who perks up alertly when the word is preached, taught, spoken, quoted in conversations and printed in front of me.  Engrave your word on my heart so I will have it readily available to filter all the pithy and uncertain messages I hear every day all around me too.  Without your word to teach and guide me, I will most certainly self destruct in my own thinking and the thoughts of other sinful hearts.  Awaken my heart every day by the power of your life giving word.
    Pastor Don Patterson

  •  For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war. - 2 Chronicles 16:9
Dear heavenly Father, I know that your love for me is unconditional.  You made and saved me by your grace.  But there are times that I have neglected your word and grace and went off to "do life" my own way.  I know that you discipline your children and I can see by what you said to Asa in the passage above that you will send me negative consequences for my sins that come from my weakness of faith.  I trust you even when you must discipline me.  I know you are using consequences to call me back to yourself.  I'd rather suffer under your consequences than be allowed to run freely toward eternal judgment.  Thank you for intervening in our lives with stern but loving rebuke.  AMEN

  • 11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. - 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12
Dear Heavenly Father, I want to be like you in the same way that the Apostle Paul was for his people.  I want to view every person with the affection a father has for his own kids.  Sometimes I treat people differently than my family.  Help me to own others as friends and family even when they don't act like it. Give me the courage to urge Christians I know to live lives worthy of the gospel.  But don't let me be conditional in the way I treat them.  Let them see that even when we talk pointedly that that my love for them is unshakable.  AMEN

  • Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the LordI will be joyful in God my Savior. - Habakkuk 3:17-18
Dear God, I have always been amazed by Habakkuk's statement here.  I am so used to praising you for the blessings you send my way in the form or food, money, good health and a bright future.  But Habakkuk says that even if all those things be gone he would still praise you because you were his Savior.  I do get glimpses of this kind of pure praise in my soul.  But too often I feel like my praise must be purchased with some sort of worldly blessing.  Forgive me for my shallow thankfulness   Help me to rejoice deep in my heart that my eternal salvation is secure.  And give me that joy that brightens the room springing from the peace of knowing you and your final, wonderful gift of total rescue.  AMEN

  • You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.  - Psalm 139:1-4
Dear Heavenly Father, so often I wonder if I am alone.  I cannot see you and I have never heard your voice.  But then I see in your word that you are intimately involved in every move I make.  You see me all day and all night.  You know my thoughts and words before I do.  I find comfort in knowing that you know me so well.  I cannot hide anything from you.  Help me to remember that when I am tempted to sin or to doubt your loving care.  You knew everything about me and still chose to redeem me in your Son.  How can that be?  It's what makes you so amazing to me.  I want to make you happy with my thoughts, words and actions.  Help me be pleasing in your sight today. Give me someone new to encourage as well.  AMEN

  • First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. - Romans 1:8
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for all the Christians all over the world and in places that I have never imagined.  I cannot wait to get to heaven and meet all of them and hear their stories oabout their adventures in faith.  Strengthen each of them today.  Give them peace in their hearts, a sense of purpose and mission mindedness.  Help them with their struggles and give them close Christian friends to encourage them and drive away their loneliness. I also thank you for the Christians who are near to me and who affect me every week.  I can see your hand in putting them into my life.  Help me to be a blessing to them the way they are to me.  AMEN

  • "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. - 1 Peter 5:10-11
Dear heavenly Father, the difficulties of this life seem to last so long.  But then you say they last for just "a little while."  I am thankful that you often give me reprieves from my suffering here.  I am even more thankful that you promise my final rescue in Jesus.  I will be well because you promise that my life ends well, in heaven.  Make me strong and steadfast in faith and joyful hope even while I am facing grave difficulties here on earth.  Help me to live with joy today no matter what today brings.

  •  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. - Ephesians 6:12
Dear Jesus, too often I think that the biggest struggles I have are with people.  But they aren't.  They are with wicked evil forces that tempt and try me with all kinds of evil thoughts, misconceptions and "cotton candy" ideas that promise sweet blessings and evaporate the minute I touch them.  I need your Holy Spirit to give me discernment.  With his help I want to lead my heart and not follow it.  I want to walk that narrow road of faith and not veer off into trusting the lies.  Please come and give me truth, discernment,  faith and insight.  Thank you that you have rescued me the shallow thoughts of my old nature. Now fill me with rich fare of your Word.  Make my mind a storehouse of truth to be shared for the benefit of all who come near me.  AMEN

  • 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. - Ephesians 4:29-32
Dear Holy Spirit, you so faithfully guarded what worse you would allow in the Bible for us.  Please help me guard what words I let out of my mouth for others.  I do not want my conversations to be like litter strewn all over the place, left for others to deal with. I want them to be accessories to a beautiful masterpeice.  I want the people around me to know they are blessed for having heard me speak.  And it starts close to home with those who have to live with me.  Make my words good food for their souls today.  So, they can feed on them when they are feeling empty and confused.  AMEN
